The New Englander
The Cape Cod hospitality company that brings Chef Joe’s food, brands and New England projects together.
Chef Joe Armstrong is the original founder and owner of The New Englander and The Angry Tomato—a New England chef whose work is grounded in restaurant operations, fine dining and food that has earned its place at real tables.

Born in Somerville and raised on Cape Cod, Chef Joe built his career through hands-on restaurant ownership and operations. His extensive background includes fine dining, resort and destination hospitality, airport food service, culinary direction, catering and product development.
That experience is the foundation of every New Englander concept and Angry Tomato recipe. Products are informed by actual guest response and the demands of professional service: flavor must be memorable, quality must be consistent and the food must give people a reason to return.
Chef Joe’s current work connects restaurant-developed pantry products with chef-led catering, seasonal holiday meals, hospitality partnerships and future New England concepts. The common thread is straightforward: make it honestly, serve it generously and build something that lasts.
