Chef Joe Armstrong

A New England culinary story built through the work.

Chef Joe Armstrong is the original founder and owner of The New Englander and The Angry Tomato. Born in Somerville and raised on Cape Cod, he built The New Englander around food, family and the character of the place he calls home.

His extensive career spans restaurant ownership and operations, fine dining, resort and destination hospitality, airport food service, culinary leadership, catering and product development. Every concept and recipe carries what was learned through actual service: what works in a kitchen, what earns a guest’s trust and what brings people back.

From restaurants and prepared foods to sauces, jams, dressings and future waterfront concepts, the mission remains simple: make it honestly, serve it generously and build something worth handing down.
